Sustainable Tree Crops Programme
The Sustainable Cocoa Tree Programme helps farmers in West Africa to earn more from their
cocoa crop
The Sustainable Tree Crops Programme, supported by us and others, helps farmers in West Africa to earn more from their cocoa crop. Over a period of nine months, farmers learn how to improve cocoa yields. They’re helped to organise themselves so that they can join together and earn a better price for their cocoa harvest. They also learn about HIV/AIDS and malaria prevention. Unicef statistics show that Côte d’Ivoire has the highest HIV prevalence in West Africa, with an estimated 480,000 people living with HIV, out of a population of 18,300,000. That’s over 1 in 40.
