20 farmers participate in a farmer field school at Kple N’Drikro
A group of twelve farmer field schools set up by The Cocoa Plan are half way through the first year of training. Last year three coops grouped together near Gagnoa in the Ivory Coast to benefit from a partnership with The Cocoa Plan and Nestlé’s supply chain partner, Cargill. A total of 460 farmers are being trained In the 12 farmer field schools. The field schools are run in local farms accessible to a group of farmers. So far the schools have covered subjects of cocoa harvesting, drying, safe pesticide spraying and farming techniques to control cocoa diseases. A further 540 farmers from the coops are being trained in 7 apprentice groups.
