Ecuadorian Farmers trained to propagate trees

Becli Cedeño Moreira and Carlos Véliz Alcívar Ecuadorian cocoa farmer workshop in Nestlé’s experimental cocoa farm

Nacional cocoa trees are unique to Ecuador and their cocoa gives a special floral flavour to chocolate. On October 9th 2009, over 40 cocoa farmers from all over Ecuador participated in a workshop about Nacional cocoa tree propagation in the Nestlé experimental cocoa farm in Ecuador. Nestlé is buying directly from cocoa farmers and their coops, so not only do they receive a transparent price for their cocoa, but at the same time are being trained to increase the production levels (and thus income) from their farms through good farming practices.
