Nestlé Chocolate
Making Chocolate More Nutritious
Enjoyment and wellbeing in a balanced diet supporting the Nestlé philosophy of Good Food, Good Life
Enjoying chocolate is an intrinsic part of many people’s lives. We recognize that they wish to take responsibility for achieving wellness and balance in their lives. In this context, we continue to update the nutritional benefits of our products and actively encourage consumers to follow “Good Food, Good Life” by enjoying our products within a healthy and balanced diet and lifestyle.
Against this background, we want to create the best tasting chocolate, making it even more enjoyable; but we also want to improve nutritional benefits. We’re doing this in a number of ways.
First, we’ve developed healthier options by reducing, removing or replacing ingredients, leading to naturally sourced products or products with no artificial ingredients or preservatives. We also sell products with reduced fat and/or sugar. For example, in the UK, all ingredients in Milkybar are naturally sourced and Smarties have no artificial colours, and other countries are following.
Furthermore, where we can, we’re also increasing the content of nutritious ingredients and nutrients such as dairy, calcium, fruit, nuts, cereals, fibre and antioxidants. For example, we’ve boosted the cereal content in Nestlé Bocaditos in Mexico, and Dark Nestlé Raisinets in the USA have a high antioxidant content.
Pack Communication

Consumers also want to know more about what they’re eating. We use our packs to give nutritional information and healthy eating tips. The “Nestlé Nutritional Compass” on our packs clearly communicates nutritional and health benefits. We take particular care to indicate how chocolate fits into a balanced diet, and to recommend portion size as part of the recognised GDA (Guideline Daily Amounts).
To help people to eat responsibly, more and more of our chocolate products have packaging that shows the recommended Guideline Daily Amounts (GDA) related to their portion size and are made to break easily into portions or packed in resealable packs, making it easier to manage consumption as part of a balanced diet.
